I was hired by Hitachi to be their Corporate close up magician recently in Witshire. It was a large group of Hitachi staff which followed a schedule of mixing and mingling amongst the guests as they arrived. Usually this involves going up to samll groups of people as they are chatting, introducing myself and then impressing them with some deceptive close up magic! Close up magic is so much fun and mind boggling to people because many have seen magic on tv, but never so close right under their noses. I do enjoy the reactions, and they often vary. Some just enjoy it as entertainment, others are desperately trying to work it out and some can get quite spooked by it! But is just a lot of fun and meant to entertain everyone and settle folks into a party mood.
The guests were then ushered to take their seats for the meal (see pictures which were shot by Philip Tull and come courtesy of Hitachi Valuable Solutions).
I perform close up magic a the tables inbetween the meals. It really is not a great idea to ask someone to ‘pick a card’ whilst they are popping a potato in their mouth! The table magic becomes a little cabaret for the people around the table and it is a good idea to try get everyone involoved. Sometimes that can be a challenge if folks are engaged in conversation. I just say that I was hired to entertain them and that it won’t be that long. However, most of the time, guests are always excited to pay attention to the magical entertainment. Andrew, the booker for Hitachi emailed later the next week, ‘What a great show. All were truly impressed and amazed. Thanks so much’.
